Sun Life has announced key leadership changes in its Canadian operations, effective September 30. Jacques Goulet (pictured), who has led Sun Life Canada since 2018, will transition into the role of executive chair, while Jessica Tan will succeed him as president.

In his new position, Goulet will oversee the leadership handover and continue advancing the firm’s corporate strategy. He will also retain his positions as board chair of Dialogue, Sun Life Canada’s virtual care platform, and chair of the Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association.

Goulet has been instrumental in driving significant growth at Sun Life Canada, introducing key innovations such as the Client Experience Office and Sun Life Health, as well as launching new initiatives like Sun Life One Plan and Prospr by Sun Life.

He is also an advocate for mental health, working to make it a priority in the workplace and expanding access to mental health care in Canada.

Kevin Strain, president and chief executive of Sun Life, praised Goulet for his leadership, saying: “Jacques has built a culture at Sun Life that fosters creativity and challenges the team to go even further while leveraging an owner’s mindset.

Tan, who will assume the role of president, brings a wealth of international experience in both insurance and digital innovation. Tan previously served as co-CEO of a leading Asian insurer. She also has a background in consulting from her time as a partner at McKinsey, where she worked in 13 countries.
